...the time has come to P&P

I am in Chicago for a week long conference. I can't help but to think of all the damage that could be done if I loose focus. It's time to activate P&P.

You know about P&P.
We all know about P&P.
Plan and Prioritize. We do it ALL the time, yes sometimes on the fly, but hey at least I am coming to grips at the beginning of the week.

My Plan:
1. exercise in the hotel gym at least 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times this week
2. make healthy choices for snacks and meals
3. drink lots of water

My Priorities:
Pre-Choose To Move they would have been...
[THEN]
1. Locate the down home, hole-in-the-wall, soul food and Jamaican restaurants that only locals know about.
2. Order dessert daily at every dinner.
3. Plan the next meal while eating the current one.

[NOW]
1. Network. Meet people in my professional, Learn the cutting edge research in my field. Acquaint myself with some of the movers and shakers in my profession.
2. Connect with local family and friends.
3. Relax and have fun.
4. Treat food as a necessity.
5. If time permits, find a Natural Hair Salon and get some a straw set.

I feel a growth spurt coming on!

P&P is something I need to do more. I went home over the last couple weekends and I did NO P&P!!! I did E&S (eat and sleep..lol). I have, however been eating much healthier since you started doing Choose to Move. I have eaten out only once or twice and I have upped my water and eliminated breads. Thanks for the inspirations!!! Hope you enjoyed the conference.

Hello Adrienne,
I am glad that this program has been working for you too. And I am happy to report that I had salmon and spinach for dinner, with no dessert. Trust me it was a very challenging decision.
Keep up with the water it does wonders for the skin and digestive system.

I'm a firm believer in journaling and have found that journaling my workouts and eating helps keep me on track.

Bravo to you for "claiming" in writing what you want!

Keep up the good work!

Hello K-k-k-k-katie,
I thoroughly enjoy your suggestions, feedback, and comments. You just don't know how much you motivate me.
I have never been one to "journal" but recently a friend of mine gave me a mini journal to motivate me to start making baby steps and writing. My advisor at school has also encouraged me to write 30 minutes a day for pleasure. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I WILL BEGIN TODAY!!!

Vernita,

I agree P&P are important. We must P&P as we go through this life long journey achieving our goals of career, good health, family, etc.
Congratulations on your decision to begin journaling. But you know you have been journaling as you answer the C2M friends.
I went to the gym yesterday and enjoyed the workout. I plan to go two more times this week. Take care and continue to move.

Hello Mom,
I agree, this is a form of journaling.
Glad you enjoyed your workout today! The more we workout, the more it becomes a part of us.
Love,
Vernita

Hello Vernita,

Hello Ardenia,

You do have a busy schedule.

While you are cooking try playing some upbeat music and “MOVE” to the rhythm of the beat. By doing this you will get at least 20-30 minutes of “MOVEMENT” within your schedule without having to sacrifice extra time that you don’t have.

Another suggestion I gave Martrece on my Blog entitled, “Guilty By Association” was, **P&P – Plan and Prioritize. Plan ahead. Try to prepare your health/body-friendly meals on your off days and divide your meals into desired storage containers.

But the biggest challenge is to Start. And you conquered that – Congratulations!!!
Hats off to all the Virginia “Movers”!

Choose To Move: A Community, A Way of Life

At the end of any journey, it’s always nice to reflect on the experience and enjoy the exhilaration that comes with accomplishment. During the past 12 weeks, seven real women have opened their hearts and minds to women across the country. They’ve revealed struggles, shared empowering messages, offered valuable tips and served as genuine advocates for this program.

During the Choose To Move challenge, these women not only engaged in physical activity, they discovered a community of women who share a common goal – increase physical activity in order to develop a healthier lifestyle. Their success is a direct result of determination, commitment and the support they received from those in the Choose To Move community.

From a mom with three kids to a full-time college student to women in the workplace, our real women take on many important roles. And as women juggling multiple responsibilities, we want to be the best we can be - a common thread among women in America. However, in order to be the best for our families, we must do what’s best for ourselves. Our seven real women did exactly that! Each woman, in her own way, learned how to make time for physical activity and develop better eating habits!

For Ruann, Kara, Lisa, Melanie, Vernita, Kathleen and Zulema, the 12-week challenge has come to an end. However, the ultimate reality is that their life-long journey to maintain a healthy lifestyle has only begun. No matter where you are in this journey, I encourage you to rely on women in the Choose To Move community, as well as those around you. Take advantage of the Choose To Move program and turn this challenge into a way of life.

Dear Dr. Mieres:

About the only time I can find to walk is during my lunch break. Is it better to eat prior to or following a vigerous walk?

Thank you,
Ruth

Dr. Mieres,

I saw you on TV several months ago and while the face has changed some, the name surely was very familiar. I finally found out that you are a native of Trinidad and just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you and the great job you are doing.

I believe we attended the same high school in Curepe, Trinidad, SAGHS.

Keep up the good work.
