Everyone should take time to celebrate the success in their lives. The C2M success has been wonderful. I had my first trip to New York City. Representing real women in AHA's C2M Program has been very humbling. So many real women we are here for. Meeting Marie Osmond, such a wonderful down to earth real woman herself who is extremely funny, delightful and talented. So much to see and do, it went so fast.
Now I am back home, back to reality and being real. The program is successful and it works, we proved it. But we are not done yet. We have more to do to become healthy. The program showed us the way to succeed and started us on the right road. But this road is long and we will be on it for the rest of our lives. Its nice to take a break and celebrate but then its time to continue what we've started. Either keep up the good work and have more success and health or maintain the health we have attained and stay healthy for life.
I'm back on my cardio routine, pushing a little harder to get rid of some more pounds to get my BMI down to below the overweight range, get that waist circumference down to 35 or below. I still have goals and now success is motivating me to continue. I can see ahead and the possibility of complete success is a clear vision to me now. I know I can do this.
C2M is a great program, but you have to give yourself the gift of sticking with it for 12 weeks, and doing it well. You can't be discouraged at 6 weeks and quit. If the seven of us (C2M ladies) had done that, because most of us saw no change yet at that time, look at the success we would have missed.
12 weeks of your life. 12 weeks to see changes, or 12 weeks to be in the same shape as you are now. Find your motivation and Choose To Move for health and life and then don't stop with the success you get, don't rest on your laurels. Keep on moving and finding more success. We can change the statistics with C2M and move heart disease from being the number one killer of women just by chooseing to move.
At the end of any journey, it’s always nice to reflect on the experience and enjoy the exhilaration that comes with accomplishment. During the past 12 weeks, seven real women have opened their hearts and minds to women across the country. They’ve revealed struggles, shared empowering messages, offered valuable tips and served as genuine advocates for this program.
During the Choose To Move challenge, these women not only engaged in physical activity, they discovered a community of women who share a common goal – increase physical activity in order to develop a healthier lifestyle. Their success is a direct result of determination, commitment and the support they received from those in the Choose To Move community.
From a mom with three kids to a full-time college student to women in the workplace, our real women take on many important roles. And as women juggling multiple responsibilities, we want to be the best we can be - a common thread among women in America. However, in order to be the best for our families, we must do what’s best for ourselves. Our seven real women did exactly that! Each woman, in her own way, learned how to make time for physical activity and develop better eating habits!
For Ruann, Kara, Lisa, Melanie, Vernita, Kathleen and Zulema, the 12-week challenge has come to an end. However, the ultimate reality is that their life-long journey to maintain a healthy lifestyle has only begun. No matter where you are in this journey, I encourage you to rely on women in the Choose To Move community, as well as those around you. Take advantage of the Choose To Move program and turn this challenge into a way of life.

I'm very much an internet girl. As soon as I found out I had high blood pressure, I found this site. After going through all the 'choose to move' selectees, I chose Vervita, for the reason that she update often and replied to those that posted comments.
Well here we are, 6 months later, most of those chosen have yet to update.
Considering these are all busy and accomplished women, perhaps some slack should be cut. Ok.
The forums are worse. I have had to hunt and peck to find true posts, some of which should be answered by a professional, not a jr. high social studies teacher.
I'm sorry to be so negative. In truth, AHA diet and recipes have made it possible that I may be coming off meds next week. My diet plan has been based on your cookbooks.
When I called in my numbers today, to get a refill, the office called me back and said the doctor said when I want, to stop meds for 4 days and make an appointment for the 5th. If bp is in the 100-120 range, we'll stop the meds. Woo hoo! Diet and exercise may pay off!

Having out of town company can help keep weight off, says I after my son and wife spent a long weekend here! Also helping was the planning and carrying off an 82nd birthday party for my hubby and 25 guests. It was a picnic at a local pavillion and I decided to use glass plates (mismatched family stuff), cloth napkins and regular silverware. Well, preparing foods, carrying, setting up and serving with lots of help from the "kids" was fat burning indeed. I'll not have too many more of these affairs but it sure was fun, a beautiful day, good food with emphasis on veggie stuff but capped off with a gourmet chocolate store's cake. Slivers of that did it. How precious families and friends are! Let us see how I do at a wedding this weekend. Oh, son Carl and I went for a walk and came home 1 & 1/2 hours later!! Got my rowing shell in the water for a 1/2 hour tool around our cove yesterday. So you see while I have been uncommunicative of late I have kept moving! Regards. Joan

I knew you were out there moving somewhere. I'm burning calories just reading about your activities. You keep that up and you'll be moving for years to come. And thats what its all about, being around for family and enjoying each other. We are getting ready to have a family housewarming for two of my neices and the menu is salads, all kinds but healthy of course. Can't wait to get some new ideas from those sisters of mine. Also going on our beach vacation. After working in the hospital laying on the beach with a good book, long walks on the beach with my daughters, fishing with my husband all will be heaven. Keep moving and keep enjoying life, I am. Joan you are my inspiration and my aspiration.
