POSITIVE Thoughts

I am thinking positive about being able to;
-run with my kids without having a hard time catching up
-bike endless miles on a beach with my husband (I don't know where or when but someday)
-wear great cute summer clothes
-feel "ok" in a bathing suit
-like my stomach (did I ever like my stomach?) & hips again someday

the scale - oh the dreaded scale

It finally moved in the right direction - down on Wednesday. I was relieved to see all this shakin & groovin was not for nothin. I know it's inches & how clothes fit BUT this is the first time in my life I have exercised this much. I just wanted some kind of measured reward. As far as scales go and my feelings towards them...

Yes, the dishes & laundry does pile up

I was walking Monday during religion, when I saw two friends of mine. They commented about me still movin'. Then asked isn't hard to keep up with the house when fitting this much exercise in? Because one of them had just stepped up her movement and she knew 1st hand.

Week 3 here we come!

On my day "off" yesterday - we went down to the St Patricks Day parade in Downtown Atlanta. It was a fun but cold day. We even ended up in the Atlanta Journal this morning - imagine drinking your morning tea & your husband yells out WE'RE in the PAPER!

here is a picture of our family at the parade yesterday not the one that was in the paper but possibly my NEW favorite family photo of ours.

We listen for the still small voice

This was read at the end of Yoga friday. I had tears in my eyes because I found it so fitting for our challenge!

A Cherokee Feast of Days Daily Meditations
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler

March 9

We are not always granted the privilege of going back and doing things differently. If we were, could we? We might if we had new knowledge. Otherwise, we would do the same thing we did before. It was all we knew. Every race has had its Trail of Tears, in fact, every individual has suffered and agonized over what he might have done. Gentle people hope that by cooperation things will work for all concerned. It isn't in the hearts of the gentle to think that others do not have their same heart-felt ways. But challenges in the present time are sufficient without adding the past. If we know so much now, we need to use it. We can, sometimes, project ahead by looking back objectively to tap some reserve of knowledge. If we lack such inner knowledge, if we lack wisdom, we need to ask. And then we listen for the still small voice of direction.

I know everyone is just dying to know how spinning went...

Going on EIGHT days in a row!!!

Successes from last week;

1. Moved EVERY single day! This is definitely a first for me - even when I was good shape I don't think I ever worked out so much.

2. I added variety to all this movement. - Walking (outside & in), stairs, weights, Arc Trainer, I took my oldest's bike for a quick spin! I even fit in a YOGA class on Friday. I haven't taken yoga in over year. I love it and this 90 min class is going to be my reward on fridays for a week well done.

YEAH day1 a success! only the rest of my life to go

First day was pretty good! Left me feeling positive and inspired ~ that I CAN do this! Worked out at the Y on the Arc Trainer (like an eliptical) for 55 minutes (it helps that I can watch a movie while I am doing this) and then took a lengthy stroll in the church parking lot with my mom, Grayson & the puppy while the girls were at religion. Which was a first, I have always seen other moms walking during this hour but I am usually flying out of the parking lot in my mini-van to hit Publix or the dollar store or something. Who knows maybe all this exercise will save me $ too?

Eating wise - I ate breakfast which is something I tend to neglect. That is part of my plan to eat it EVERYDAY like a normal person. It was a healthy day all in all.

I was thinking by 9pm, this isn't so hard why have I been fighting it for so long. But I know the struggles and challenges are right around the corner at anytime, I have to be prepared to face them. Got to go walking!

my outward appearance is not matching my inward appearance these days

My name is Kara Byrd. I am a 35yr old wife & mother from Alpharetta, Georgia. I married my High School Sweeheart, Chris and we have three wonderful kids; Gabby is 7, Aubrey is 5 and Grayson is 3. We have two cats and we just got a Golden Retriever Puppy. I know I am crazy! The more you get to know me, you will see I don’t like to live a very boring life. We are a busy family that loves to have FUN! Whether it’s going to the circus dressed as clowns or taking a huge group of families (100) with us to take helicopter rides as an end of summer field trip!

Choose To Move: A Community, A Way of Life

At the end of any journey, it’s always nice to reflect on the experience and enjoy the exhilaration that comes with accomplishment. During the past 12 weeks, seven real women have opened their hearts and minds to women across the country. They’ve revealed struggles, shared empowering messages, offered valuable tips and served as genuine advocates for this program.

During the Choose To Move challenge, these women not only engaged in physical activity, they discovered a community of women who share a common goal – increase physical activity in order to develop a healthier lifestyle. Their success is a direct result of determination, commitment and the support they received from those in the Choose To Move community.

From a mom with three kids to a full-time college student to women in the workplace, our real women take on many important roles. And as women juggling multiple responsibilities, we want to be the best we can be - a common thread among women in America. However, in order to be the best for our families, we must do what’s best for ourselves. Our seven real women did exactly that! Each woman, in her own way, learned how to make time for physical activity and develop better eating habits!

For Ruann, Kara, Lisa, Melanie, Vernita, Kathleen and Zulema, the 12-week challenge has come to an end. However, the ultimate reality is that their life-long journey to maintain a healthy lifestyle has only begun. No matter where you are in this journey, I encourage you to rely on women in the Choose To Move community, as well as those around you. Take advantage of the Choose To Move program and turn this challenge into a way of life.

Dr. Mieres,

I'm very much an internet girl. As soon as I found out I had high blood pressure, I found this site. After going through all the 'choose to move' selectees, I chose Vervita, for the reason that she update often and replied to those that posted comments.

Well here we are, 6 months later, most of those chosen have yet to update.

Considering these are all busy and accomplished women, perhaps some slack should be cut. Ok.

The forums are worse. I have had to hunt and peck to find true posts, some of which should be answered by a professional, not a jr. high social studies teacher.

I'm sorry to be so negative. In truth, AHA diet and recipes have made it possible that I may be coming off meds next week. My diet plan has been based on your cookbooks.

When I called in my numbers today, to get a refill, the office called me back and said the doctor said when I want, to stop meds for 4 days and make an appointment for the 5th. If bp is in the 100-120 range, we'll stop the meds. Woo hoo! Diet and exercise may pay off!
